Attenion 204!
Here are some final words from me before you break your long hollidays, and if you're not planning to read this , let me give you three good reasons why you should read this.
First of all, Ms Nah never says anything meaningless and useless.Secondly, by reading this, I'm sure you'll be able to learn some interesting vocabulary, phrases and metaphors useful for the improvement of your English.Thirdly, I'm sure that deep down in your heart, even though some of you may have been seemingly defiant and stubborn, you still appreciate me and would love to hear me speak. You'll enjoy reading this.
Let me begin with my appreciation. I'll like to thank the class for the surprise party last week.
Honestly, you boys and girls caught me offguard! I must say that i was vert surprised and touched by all your lovely gestures.
Also, I must say that it has been a roller-coaster ride with all of you this year, but nonetheless an enjoyable one. Do not think that I do not know when you are using your mobile phone under the table. Do not think that i am unable to differentiate a dreamy look from an attentive look. Do not think that you were able to hide all your acts from me, because nothing, absolutely nothing in the classroom can escape my eyes.
Next, I want to talk about one of our favourite words that begins with 'f'. Remember Freedom Writers? Remember what the flim was about? Remember there was this scene where Ms G was speaking to one of her black students and she told her students that his defiance was like a 'f*** y**' to her?
Yes, using the f word may not seem like a big deal in the States, neither does it seem like a big deal since the whole universe uses it freely and openly. I know some of you use it as if it's your oxygen, but seriously, let's do some thinking here. Do not be deceived by the cool facade which the f word brings, because firstly, using it in your writing and speaking is totally not cool at all, and even though the whole world uses it, it does not erase the fact that it is still a vulgarity, a socially aberrrant word.
So, don't you dare let me or anybody hear the f word coming from your mouth. You shouldn't be using it, not just because it is a vulgarity, but because there are consequences and implications to it.
If you use it as a part of your everyday language, it only tells me one ugly thing about you -
that you have limited vocabulary and that you are handicapped in expressing yourself, and I would be utterly disappointed and ashamed of you. Come on, I am sure that you can express you anger and frustrations in much more intelligent and sophisticated ways. 'F***'?
Seriously, is that the best you can do after eight years of education?
Think about the kind of impression you'll create after using the f word. What kind of image do you want to create for yourself? How do you want people to think of you? Does using the f word make you look more powerful, more beautiful, more charming and more attractive? Is it very glorious to use it so loosely? Do you want people to pay attention to you because of the other positive qualities that you possess?
Using the word only shows me that you are nothing more than an uncouth, rude and impulsive teenager - nothing more than a rash animal allowing its bestial instincts to manifest. Each and everyone of you is an intelligent and well-educated human being who has a brain to think, so you better think before you speak and act. That's what language lessons are for - to equip you with a wider range of vocabulary for life, so that you may express your feelings and thoughts in more meaningful and impressive wats that do not undermine your dignity and whatever positive character you possess, and so that you will become an attractive man or woman to win the hearts of the opposite sex.
I hope you have savoured every single word I've said. If you fully understand every single word and sentence, good for you- it shows that you have a reasonable standard of English. If you do not understand certain things I've said, you better find out the meanings of those words, on your own or from your friends who have understood.
Mark my words, remember what I just said. As you grow and mature, you'll gradually agree with me.
Have an enjoyable holidays boys and girls... hmmm or should i start addressing all you as gentlemen and ladies? I hope to see all you returning to school next year looking more handsome and more gentlemanly, for the boys, and more elegant and beautiful, for the girls.
Some of you make it sound like we're never going to see each other again. Come on, you have made yourselves unforgettable and memorable.
With Love,
Miss Nah .
